You Let Me Cry When I Am Sad

cryingIt doesn’t happen often, but sometimes the things you do make me sad. Both you and I know that it is not your fault, it is nothing to do with what is going on right now, it is only an echo of a barren life once lived.

Your heart is different, your thoughts are different, your intentions are truthful and pure and yet your actions remind me of my past. I am a starving, arid desert needing constant watering and attention, and when you are legitimately distracted by other things, I feel abandoned.

I cry, great heaving hot tears of hurt and pain. I am racked with aching sobs that escape from the deepest part of my scarred soul.

You let me cry. You whisper “I’m sorry” into my neck as you hold me. You know I’m over-reacting, you know I’m interpreting today through the eyes of the past and yet you say nothing more. You don’t explain or defend or rationalise my pain, you just stand in the middle of the storm and let it wash over you.

You let me cry when I am sad. And for that, I love you.
