Trigger Me This

There has been a lot of blog chatter about the Marie Claire article that claims some health and fitness bloggers aren’t as healthy as they claim.

I don’t have an opinion on the quoted bloggers healthiness because I don’t read them. In fact, I don’t read any blogs any more that document daily food intake and exercise regimes.

And the reason why is because they ‘trigger’ me. As a self diagnosed eating disorder survivor, I don’t want to start sliding down the rabbit hole of “if only I ate and exercised like that, I would be skinny again”.

It doesn’t mean that if you blog about such things that I think you are wrong, disordered or misguided, it just means that I can’t go there. I also can’t watch war movies, drive in tunnels or listen to Talking Heads, but it is my associations and stories that make these things harmful, not the things themselves.

I know my boundaries, I know my limits and my life is enhanced by my decision to abstain. I fully support everyone’s right to express their own unique view of the world, but as soon as one of my favourite bloggers mentions tips and tricks to suppress (natural) hunger or is exercising to compensate for ‘over’ eating, I’m out of there. Watch me press “unsubscribe” in a heart beat.

These days I read about sex, chaos, humour, adventure, inspiration and bravery. I choose to identify with people who write stories that mirror my own … a messy  life focussed on living with passion and love for all beings, including myself.

Be kind to yourself – step away from the stuff that makes you crazy, and follow your own unique, uncharted path to happiness and health.
