The Grass is Greener

grass

How do you choose between being content with what you have that is easy, familiar and comfortable or going after your dreams of living a great big exciting life?

Do we just think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, or is it actually grass that is infinitely better than the dry, lifeless lawn we wake up to every day?

Is it better to keep wearing the old worn out loyal slippers that are falling apart, or to endure the pain of wearing in a newer, more attractive and warmer pair?

What happens when your authentic self feels trapped by the walls you have built in the past? Can those walls be refashioned and transformed, or is it time to call in the bulldozers?

Is something (mediocre and “normal”) really better than risking ending up with nothing?

Grass, slippers and walls ~ you have no idea what I am talking about …

All I worry is that to pursue my innermost dreams means irreversibly leaving behind all that is safe, familiar and actually fairly good. Is good ever enough when you want to be spectacular? Is spectacular even possible?

When is a dream just an impossible fantasy, and what if you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone? Is second best good enough when the very best is out of your reach?

Have YOU ever done it? Have you left behind something that was perfectly fine for most people in the pursuit of something bigger and better? Did you find happiness reaching for the stars or just disappointment that gravity was an immutable law?

On January 14, 2010 I wrote those words. They were deleted when I purged my blog of anything that might incriminate me.

Today I can tell you that the grass is soft, lush and emerald green on the other side of the fence, that new shoes are beautiful and comfortable, that walls can be bulldozed revealing the perfect view, spectacular is possible and flying frees you from gravity.

The very best is never out of reach.
