How to Love Your Body in a Bikini

Let’s face it, even though we love ourselves, there are parts of our bodies that we are happier revealing more than others. Me, I have great boobs. In fact, in my brief dating period between husband and Duckfish, one guy got the flick because he commented “I’m not really a boob man.” I have an hour glass figure which looks great down to about my hip line and then things aren’t quite as attractive as I would like.

I’m talking about my upper thighs. If I was an enlightened feminist, I wouldn’t care about my stretchmarks, loose skin and cellulite, but I honestly feel more comfortable if they are covered.

So a swimsuit is going to be a problem. Even a one piece which hides my best bits (upper body) still has the whole thigh revealing thing going on.

Sue Rice BikiniThe solution is this wonderful bikini I bought last season from Sue Rice Swimwear. The cute little skirt with built in pants covers up the parts I feel self conscious about. I have never, even when I was teeny tiny, felt so comfortable in a swimsuit.

The good thing is you can mix and match any top and bottom. I have the skirt/pants in black and a bikini top in black and one in a black/white pattern. I also have a long line top that covers up my belly but I’ve worn it more as a normal clothes top than for swimming.

I know it is winter in Australia and you think I’m mad for writing about swimwear when it’s freezing cold outside, but tomorrow I’m off to Queensland for a week and it made me think about how happy I am not to stress about how I look in a swimsuit any more. The point is, finding a swimsuit that you feel happy in is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It frees you up to enjoy the water, the sun and the kayaking.

  1. Thankyou thankyou thankyou! I bought swimwear from Sue Rice a few years ago and still have them. They are wonderful – I had a tankini. But when my hard drive crashed I lost all of my favourites. When I was googling – is that a word? – they never came up. I have found a few other sites with great swimmers, but not as great as these guys!!!
P.S you can come to Darwin and swim in my pool, I won’t be joining you, too cold for us locals!!!!!

    1. Nice — see how the Universe looks after you giving you just what you were looking for. 🙂 After I wrote this post I thought about trashing it because I thought it was too boring. But I put it up anyway — and it turns out that reason was you.

      1. No keep it there. There are a lot of people who don’t swim or even sit by the pool because they can’t get good swimwear. I am guilty of that. Imagine going to Bali and not swimming in the glorious pools & beaches. There swimwear is a little more expensive, howver I bought mine, at least 3 years ago. It is still perfect, although filled out just a little more! And the calculator is great. I just had a look and I am looking for my next purchase. Thanks Katie.

        1. Yes they’re not cheap, but they’re well made and keep their shape/stretch. Even though I’ve lost weight since I bought them, they still fit.
