Self Portrait 365|96 • The Secret to Happiness

by KatieP, in category Self Portrait 365

This is me not giving a fuck. Life is too short to get all twisted up about insignificant things. Have an orgasm, read a good book, have a lie down. This is all you need to be happy. Plus swimming goggles – you can’t be unhappy wearing swimming goggles.

I spent my teenage years on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, and through the church my parents attended, I became friends with George Perdikis, John James and Peter Furler. These young men would go on to form the popular Christian rock band The Newsboys.

The Humanist Creed expresses what I believe in, rather than what I don’t.

Is it possible that I am the only one who has given up religion, or are other people tip-toeing around the issue the same way as I have?

It’s dark because you are trying too hard. Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly. Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply. Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them. So throw away your baggage and go forward. There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet, trying to suck… Read More

It is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears.

Where ever you are, you are one with the clouds and one with the sun and the stars you see. You are one with everything. That is more true than I can say, and more true than you can hear. ― Shunryu Suzuki

#1000Speak ~ With so much violence, death and pain in the world it is difficult to know what to do to make a difference. A single voice, crying in the wilderness is barely heard, but there is power in numbers. When people unite for good, miracles can happen

I loved yesterday’s photo so much that I made it my avatar all over the web. Now every other photo I’ve taken looks like shit including today’s effort. Perhaps I should have washed my greasy hair or at least brushed it.

Author – Katie Paul

I have survived adoption, bulimia and the suicide of my husband, more or less unscathed. I attribute my resilience to my guardian angels Bob, Fred and Hugo.

I used to be a stage manager but gave it all up to create beautiful images and to write about loss, love, lust and longing. I get a bit raunchy at times because that’s the way life should be – full of big juicy moments. I'm sure Bob, Fred and Hugo agree.
