How to Love a Broken-Hearted Woman

by KatieP, in category Heart | Love & Romance

They say that being grown-up means you have survived at least three disasters and one apocalypse. Quite often, that apocalypse involves a broken heart. There are very few women venturing into love the second (or third or fourth…) time around who don’t have deep emotional scars. They are a paradox of strength and vulnerability. But they… Read More

My Boyfriend is Having an Online Relationship

by KatieP, in category Heart | Love & Romance

I walk into the room and whatever is on my boyfriend’s laptop screen fades to grey. He looks at me sheepishly. “Looking at porn, again?” I ask, laughing. He shakes his head. “No,” he says. “An email from an old girlfriend. I haven’t spoken to her in years.” “Carry on,” I say, kissing him on… Read More

14 Things Women Wished Men Knew About Sex

by KatieP, in category Health | Sexuality

I asked a group of 268 sassy women to tell me the one thing they wished men (or their sexual partners of either sex) knew about them. Here are some of their answers. 1 — Just because you think something should feel good doesn’t mean it makes me feel good. 2 — Sometimes I just want to talk about my… Read More

The Exquisite Fabric of Love

by KatieP, in category Health | Sexuality

She lived a long time believing love became tired and worn out after the first flush of passion died down. Her parents marriage was all she knew. Full of loyalty, her mother and father no longer danced, but trudged through their relationship with the exhaustion of duty and familiarity. If there had ever been a… Read More

Not a Relationship but a Pirate Ship

by KatieP, in category Heart | Love & Romance

When my guy was struggling and fearing “The Relationship”, I almost suggested that instead of having a relationship we should have a pirate ship. Adventure. Booty. Breaking the rules, braving the storms. We sail wherever we want, together. ~ Kelly Diels • Cleavage My boyfriend and I don’t have a relationship in the traditional sense of… Read More

10 Reasons Why You Should Have Sex on the First Date

by KatieP, in category Heart | Dating

There is an article doing the rounds that urges people (the author is surprisingly a man) to wait before they have sex with someone new. Everyone is entitled to their preferences but I’m not known for my patience. I met my boyfriend on a late summer’s night five years ago. Before that night, we had emailed, chatted… Read More

Searching for Fullness

by KatieP, in category Head | Mindfulness

Women seem to have the hardest time with overeating, dieting and obsessing about food. Perhaps the reason for this is that most women have a feminine essence which desires the sensation of fullness. A masculine essence, on the other hand, it all about finding peace and nothingness and is illustrated in their need to zone out… Read More

What to Do When Your Partner Cheats

by KatieP, in category Health | Sexuality

When I published my post I Had an Affair and I’m Not Ashamed, I received a lot of hate mail. One friend posted on my Facebook wall about her husband’s infidelity and then promptly unfriended me. Another spoke of how her cheating father had left a trail of destruction she still had trouble forgiving. I understand that affairs can cause… Read More

Why your attempts at love are failing (and what to do about it)

by KatieP, in category Heart | Love & Romance

How do you know someone loves you? No really, how do you know? Can you remember a time when you felt totally loved? When was the moment you knew for sure? What did that person do to convince you? I’m guessing you came up with an answer along the lines of (a) it was the way… Read More

How to Make a Woman’s Blood Run Hot

by KatieP, in category Heart | Love & Romance
How to make a woman's blood run hot

I have experienced first-hand what it means to be with a man who I love emotionally, mentally and physically and there is no way I will ever settle for anything less. Maybe we’re still in the honeymoon period or maybe I don’t have the stress other people have, but after five years we are still like… Read More

T is for Trauma • #atozchallenge

by KatieP, in category Head | Mindfulness

I read in a book once about the difference between a traumatic event and a terrible one. I’ve spent the last couple of hours trying to find the exact words, but to no avail. I thought it was in this book about a chaplain whose job it is to notify people of the death of… Read More

The Practice of Self Love • #1000speak

by KatieP, in category Health | Midlife

Art is a practice, medicine is a practice, and architecture is a practice. Photography, painting, meditation, dance, writing, and yoga is a practice. What makes these particular things a practice? A practice is something that has an intrinsic (internal) motivation to achieve excellence both for oneself and for the good of the community. It brings to mind such… Read More

N is for Needy • #atozchallenge

by KatieP, in category Heart | Love & Romance

It was my husband’s day off and he seemed in a pleasant mood. Mid-morning — late enough for him to be awake and early enough for him not to have started drinking — he was in the kitchen tidying up from the night before. Years of beer and takeaway had made him heavy and slow.… Read More

Author – Katie Paul

I have survived adoption, bulimia and the suicide of my husband, more or less unscathed. I attribute my resilience to my guardian angels Bob, Fred and Hugo.

I used to be a stage manager but gave it all up to create beautiful images and to write about loss, love, lust and longing. I get a bit raunchy at times because that’s the way life should be – full of big juicy moments. I'm sure Bob, Fred and Hugo agree.
