Once you have seen deeply and have been deeply seen, you know that nothing has ever, ever been as it seemed.

I can’t decide if I want to be pretty and ethereal, or dark and stripped back. I like seeing the freckles on my skin and the bags under my eyes ~ I look as though I’m wearing my life on my skin.

And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.

I thought you might be interested in the way I have things set up to take my daily photos. Luckily, I happen to live in a house that has the perfect photographer’s lounge room – white walls and big windows with soft blinds.

If you celebrate your differentness, the world will, too. It believes exactly what you tell it—through the words you use to describe yourself, the actions you take to care for yourself, and the choices you make to express yourself. Tell the world you are a one-of-a-kind creation who came here to experience wonder and spread… Read More

You are exactly enough. In fact, you are more. More than all of it. You are more than the grief that brings you to your knees.

Sunday morning just after I woke up, without makeup, hair in plaits needing a wash, my skin still creased from the pillow. Morning is a magical time ~ when the ceiling is the thinnest…

The way that we approach the camera is the way we approach life. We can either own who we are, pose in an imitation of someone else, shrink down to appear smaller than we actually are, or simply run away.

Honestly, I don’t know what to do. I want to make a difference with this online space, but I don’t know how. I want to go beyond the recounting of every day minutia and address the big questions, but when I do I feel like some over zealous motivational speaker.

There is a gap, a huge chasm, between the way we see ourselves and the way others see us. When we look in the mirror, we concentrate on how much we fall short of the idealised notion of beauty we see in magazines and on television.

I think humans might be like butterflies; people die every day without many other people knowing about them, seeing their colors, hearing their stories… and when humans are broken, they’re like broken butterfly wings.

If had any say in it, I’d walk around like this all the time. I feel fierce and strong, but still feminine and beautiful.

Author – Katie Paul

I have survived adoption, bulimia and the suicide of my husband, more or less unscathed. I attribute my resilience to my guardian angels Bob, Fred and Hugo.

I used to be a stage manager but gave it all up to create beautiful images and to write about loss, love, lust and longing. I get a bit raunchy at times because that’s the way life should be – full of big juicy moments. I'm sure Bob, Fred and Hugo agree.
