I’m trying to learn how to make a photo composite. This is my first attempt to extract myself from the background and paste myself somewhere else.

Today I went for a dark background. It’s actually a blanket draped over a chair on top of the table behind me. I’m getting sick of seeing my face. It’s time to start coming up with some different ideas … Please feel free to offer some inspiration.

By the time we’re 45 or 50, few people are unscathed. We all fall down. The issue is not who falls down, it’s who gets back up and how. The new midlife is where you realize that even your failures make you more beautiful and are turned spiritually into success if you became a better… Read More

She had a soul that was much too big for her; it filled her to the brim till there was no more space, so it flowed out through her eyes. ― Nick Lake, In Darkness

Everyone who terrifies you is sixty-five percent water. And everyone you love is made of stardust, and I know sometimes you cannot even breathe deeply, and the night sky is no home, and you have cried yourself to sleep enough times that you are down to your last two percent, but nothing is infinite, not… Read More

When I was a child, my mother’s go to remedy for all sorts of spills and ills was something called Gentian Violet. It came in a muslin covered bag, and to apply it you added water so it functioned like a kind of weird purple tea bag.

This afternoon a thunderstorm rolled in so I pointed my camera through the window and stood outside in the rain. I love the drop of water on the end of my nose and how the rain on the glass looks as though I’m crying.

I have come to accept the feeling of not knowing where I am going. And I have trained myself to love it. Because it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight. And as we fly, we still… Read More

Author – Katie Paul

I have survived adoption, bulimia and the suicide of my husband, more or less unscathed. I attribute my resilience to my guardian angels Bob, Fred and Hugo.

I used to be a stage manager but gave it all up to create beautiful images and to write about loss, love, lust and longing. I get a bit raunchy at times because that’s the way life should be – full of big juicy moments. I'm sure Bob, Fred and Hugo agree.
