Joy is like the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree

Twinkle lights are the perfect metaphor for joy. Joy is not a constant. It come to us in moments — often ordinary moments. Sometimes we miss out on the bursts of joy because we’re too busy chasing down extraordinary moments. Other times we’re so afraid of the dark that we don’t dare let ourselves enjoy the light.

A joyful life is not a floodlight of joy. That would eventually become unbearable.

I believe a joyful life is made up of joyful moments gracefully strung together by trust, gratitude, inspiration and faith.

~ Brené Brown ~ The Gifts of Imperfection p 80-81

When you look at the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree this year, remember that bursts of joy come in ordinary moments.

  1. That reminded me of the joy I had the other night when I saw two gorgeous little green tree frogs hiding in a hole in a pot plant. They were just so cute. They are on my phone homepage. Going to put on my facebook page. Also atm I have all electronic noise off just before bed (except my bloody fridge) and can hear 2 frogs calling out to each other outside. Oh new love… I hope it lasts…..Yep I agree, these are joyous things, sometimes we forget and just need to turn of all of our own noise just to hear or see them.

    1. Oh what a wonderful image. I love those green tree frogs (you don’t see them here but when Duckfish and I were in Cairns they were everywhere). And I love that you heard them courting each other — wonderful!

I can’t wait to see your photo on FB.
