Two names, two natures, two faces : the duality of feminine energy

Duality of feminine energy

An old man is dying and he calls his people to his side. He gives a short, sturdy stick to each of his many offspring, wives and relatives.

“Break the stick,” he instructs them. With some effort they all snap their sticks in half.

“This is how it is when a soul is alone without anyone. They can easily be broken.”

The old man next gives each of his kin another stick, and says,

“This is how I would like you to live after I pass. Put your sticks together in bundles of twos and threes. Now, break these bundles in half.”

No one can break the sticks when there are two or more in a bundle. The old man smiles. “We are strong when we stand with another soul. When we are with another, we cannot be broken.”

Not only does this apply to being connected to your lover, your children, your parents and your friends, it also applies to our dual nature.

As women, one part of us is our outside face — the part of us that is confident, organised, elegant, educated, logical and civilised. This nature is what we have practiced since we were taught how to be good girls.

Our inside face is wild. It is creative, passionate, instinctive, sexual, emotional and constantly changing. This is our true feminine essence which most of us have tried to keep suppressed.

We have two names, two natures, two faces we need to hold together in consciousness. This is the only way we can prevent being snapped in half by the events of our lives.

If you are feeling dry, fatigued, frail, depressed, confused, unaroused, frightened, volatile, stuck, doubtful, and shaky, then you might have lost touch with your wild self.

Here are some things we can do to remember and enjoy our feminine energy to help us return to our natural radiance and enjoy our intimate relationships:

→ Feel your body and the pleasure of being alive.Take a deep breath. Relax. Enjoy any sensual or physically pleasurable experience. Basically do anything with your body. It can be as simple as breathing deeply into your belly, swaying your hips while listening to music, dancing, using your voice when chanting or enjoying a delicious meal or drink.

→ Experience nature as part of your being. Feel the wind. Smell the earth. Observe the tide and listen to the birds. Connect with raw nature in any way you instinctively feel like.

→ Open your heart and body in love with your partner and life. Enjoy the pleasures of loving intimacy and feel the flow of love in your life. Practice giving and receiving love regardless of your mood, with your intimate friends. Abandon yourself sexually with your lover and allow your heart to expand continuously.

→ Play with children and enjoy the company of good female friends, relaxing, nurturing and supporting each other.

  1. Love this Katie, I felt my wild self on the weekend, hanging up the washing in the nude… It felt so freeing to walk on the grass with barefeet and feel the sun on parts of me, having never felt it before…

    1. Sounds glorious — I’d love to hang out the washing in the nude but our garden is shared and the neighbours might be a little startled 🙂

  2. The thought makes me smile Katie… I did wonder if any neighbours were looking out at me, there could be a slight chance, but the fences are kind of high and they shouldn’t be looking 😛
