A Retraction (of sorts)

I think I may have been a little harsh in my previous post. I blame PMT. I wasn’t trying to be negative or infer that ALL girls who compete in figure competitions have eating disorders. I should have stated clearly that according to my experience with two subjects (me and Shelley) it is true that for some women competing can intensify existing disordered behaviour.

Actually, if you want to push me on the subject (of course you do) then I’ll go as far as to say that any type of counting calories and doing cardio for the sole reason of burning fat is definitely a disconnect between mind, body and spirit. But before you go and post a rebuttal to that statement, please know that I get that some people don’t agree with me. And that’s perfectly, absolutely, wonderfully OK. (sorry Duckfish, too many adverbs and a sentence starting with ‘and’. It appears that I haven’t learnt anything from writing school).

The other night, a wise woman told me that we are all swimming in the same river, all trying to get to the same place — happiness. Some of us prefer to go slowly, floating along with the current, some of us flail about with butterfly and others seem to forge ahead with a beautifully elegant freestyle. It is not up to me to criticise you for your choice of stroke. It doesn’t help you and it stops me getting to where I want to go because I’m too busy minding your business. We are all free to find our own way to happiness.

So I apologise if you felt I was attacking everyone in the body building industry. I am sorry if you felt I was criticising your stroke.

But I will still continue to have a voice and an opinion about what is important to me. The way I see things, I will never be convinced that butterfly is more efficient that breaststroke.

So I’m sorry … and I’m not.

Perfect 🙂
