The scales are no longer in the bathroom but in the shed. I try not to stand on them but recently I’ve succumbed to the urge.
It would seem that the 2 kilos I lost came back again. Perhaps it was my language. I should have said I released them or something … who knows?
So today when I was riding my bike to yoga I was thinking to myself I don’t want to do this — it’s such hard work and I’m not getting any results. Of course I forgot about my shoulder, my skin, my digestion, and my improved sleep. At that moment, all I cared about was the weight loss.
Just before I went into class a woman came up to me.
‘How long have you been coming to yoga?’ she asked.
‘This is my third week,’ I replied.
‘I think I saw you on your first day and now today. I wanted to tell you how much you’ve changed. You look younger and you’re thinner in the face and the body. It’s really noticeable.’
‘Are you sure?’ I said, ‘The scales haven’t moved.’
‘That’s what happened to me,’ she said. ‘I kept getting smaller and my clothes got too big but the scales didn’t change. It took about three months and then all the weight just melted away.’
I went into class, glad I had turned up and then a curious thing happened. During standing bow pose (my mortal enemy) I felt a weird sensation in my hamstring. It wasn’t a pain, more like the release of a knot. My leg hurt for about ten minutes afterwards but doesn’t hurt now. I think my hamstring untangled itself. Now all I need is for the other one to follow suit.
The moral of the story is you never know what’s around the corner — in yoga and in life.
