Tools for the Toolbox

When you decide to give up the mental torment over your body, it is hard to think of a different way to reach the body of your dreams without dieting and exercise. Most people advise you just to stop cold turkey, but I know how hard that is.

Dieting and the resulting blow outs are the only tool you have in your toolbox right now. I would like to recommend to you a couple of things that helped me along the way.

Andrea's Answer

The first book I read when I was looking for another way to break free from the dieting cycle was an e-book by Andréa Albright subtitled How to Lose Weight by Feeding and Nourishing Your Spirit. It doesn’t appear to be available any more, but Andrea has a great philosophy and it is worth signing up for her free stuff here. Don’t let the ‘dieting’ language put you off — she is all about feeding your spirit first and foremost.

Other books that I found helpful can be found on the Books tab above. There is a whole variety of stuff here each with it’s own perspective. Click through the pages by using the arrows at the bottom.

I Can Make You Thin

The other thing I would recommend is a meditation/hypnosis type program that you use to reprogram your thoughts. I recommend Paul McKenna and still listen to his hypnosis tracks to this day. His philosophy is the eat when you’re hungy, eat what you want, eat mindfully and stop when you’re full. He uses NLP techniques for aligning the conscious and the subconscious mind.

The other person who has a similar approach is Jim Katsoulis. I have his Program Yourself Thin program and I found it very helpful. I still listen to it occasionally but not as much as Paul McKenna because I’ve got a crush on Paul’s sexy voice.

Inside Out Weight Loss: Aligning Mind Body and Spirit for Lasting Change | Diet | Weight Loss | NLP | Motivation | FitnessRenee Stephen’s podcast Inside Out Weight Loss is an amazing resource for digging beneath your behaviour and finding what is really going on. I would recommend starting at the beginning, but the most recent episodes are good too. You can subscribe through iTunes or listen to them live on the page. The good ones have a guided meditation like Episode 177.

A Course in Miracles

Marianne Williamson has a new book called A Course in Weight Loss. I haven’t read it yet but I’ve read her other books. She is speaking at the Sydney Convention Centre at the end of this month so I am looking forward to it. The official blurb says “A Course in Weight Loss addresses the true causal root of your weight-loss issues: a place within you where you have forgotten your divine perfection. This forgetfulness has confused not only your mind but also your body, making you reach for that which cannot sustain you . . . and reject that which does. As your mind reclaims its spiritual intelligence, your body will reclaim its natural intelligence as well.”

And of course it goes without saying that this is the one of the best books there is.

Women Food and GodFor free guided meditation I recommend Meditation Oasis.

For free 20 minutes yoga classes I recommend YogaDownload.Com.

  1. Thanks for these Katie! I can definitely vouch for Renee, and I too love the Paul McKenna book and download (even though I was originally put off by the title!) I LOVE Geneen Roth – have you listened to her audio programme “When Food is Food & Love is Love: A Step-by-Step Spiritual Program to Break Free from Emotional Eating”? I can’t recommend that highly enough, especially the eating meditation! I’m going to check out the others out though for sure 🙂

    1. I hadn’t heard of the GR audio program — I love a good eating meditation so I will check it out.
