I’ve been thinking about leaving WordPress.com and having a self-hosted website for a long time now. It always seemed like too much trouble. I contemplated paying someone else to do it for me. I contacted the amazing Johnny B Truant and he gave me some excellent free advice, pointing out that without self-hosting, I don’t own the content on my blog.
Johnny has an excellent video that explains how to set up your site with HostGator. I got stuck at one point (changing the name servers or something) and the tech support guy sorted me out in five minutes. They give excellent service and currently have a 20% off special going.
If you don’t want to do it yourself, you can buy Genesis for $59.95 and get your blog set up for free.
There are a few things on my blog that didn’t transfer properly – some posts say they have no comments but when you click on them, the comments are there. The RSS feed is working [click on over to see the new design] but people who subscribed by email might not get any more updates so I’ll have to send them a separate email.
It’s very late and I should go to bed now, but I wanted to get it all finished. I hope you enjoy the new functionality. Please let me know if you find something that isn’t working [I know about the videos on the Inspiration Page - that's tomorrow's job].

Love the new design ! Yay for self-hosted! (by the way, did you always have that eBook? I never noticed it before o_o !)
Thanks Sui. I’ve wrote the e-book a life time ago when I was just starting out. I resurrected the link when I updated the blog (as a sneaky tactic to get people on my ‘list’ which is what I’m supposedly meant to do for some reason that escapes me right now)
