Operation Free Zone – Week One

by KatieP on January 17, 2011

I lost weight. Quite a lot (for me). And I don’t know whether to tell you the number or not …

You see I don’t want to advocate living and dying by the scale, but it is also hard to recognise progress without some kind of KPI (key performance indicator aka measuring stick). Even some intuitive eating gurus (Geneen Roth springs to mind) mention how much weight they gained and lost in their journey so I can only assume that there was weighing involved. Brooke Castillo even goes so far as to encourage daily weighing in order to face the demons of negativity. So maybe it’s OK after all.

Let me frame things the way I look at them and hope it is not triggering for those of you trying to let go of a scale weight/body size obsession.

I am grateful that in the last seven days my body released 2.1kg of healing weight it no longer required. I am grateful that I haven’t gone hungry, felt deprived or acted insane. I’ve implemented a minor course correction that seems completely sustainable.

The free zone is where I’m going to reside and I’m on my way. The pathway there is not a harrowing, strenuous mountain trail, but rather a gentle, welcoming country lane with stately trees and cool breezes.

Congratulations Katie! That’s amazing, and most of all, you’ve accomplished this quite naturally, living in the Free Zone; no self-imposed and un-natural restrictions; no 6 hours at the gym; just simple modifications. The best part is that this sounds so sustainable; nothing you have to stop on the weekends to have a little fun, because you’ve learned how to have fun every day, and it does not involve restriction Mon-Fri; and binging all weekend, feeling remorse on Monday, only to start all over again. You’re such an awesome inspiration; thank you, and have a super terrific week!
