Q is for Querulous • #atozchallenge

I‘m not sure if it’s age, rampant hormones, or too much time on my own, but these days I find myself becoming more and more querulous.

Querulous is a glorious word. It means cantankerous, cross, dissatisfied, grouchy, hard to please, irritable, whining and touchy.

Although I swan around on the internet, dispensing love and happiness with my tiny, twinkly wand of optimism, underneath I have a dark heart. Things piss me off, people piss me off, life pisses me off.

There are many, many situations that make me want to stab someone in the eye. I don’t usually talk about it. I think it’s time to come out of the closet.

Here are just some of the things that get on my nerves:

[1] Prayers for the sick — it seems unfair that God comes out looking good no matter what happens. If the person gets better (because of the resilience of the human body), God has performed a miracle. If the person dies, then God took them to heaven to be with Him. Instead of praying when someone is seriously ill, we should give money to medical research.

[2] Bras — I no longer wish to subject myself to a primitive form of medieval torture by wearing a garment made of hooks, straps and wires. I renounce bras.

[3] Food zealots — people who preach clean eating or Paleo or veganism or any other kind of food doctrine bore me to tears. I don’t care what you eat. At all. Never will. And no, I don’t want to see a photo of your breakfast, unless it’s being served on the chest of a 26-year-old male swimmer.

[4] Trolls — people who say inflammatory things just to provoke a reaction in other people strike me as childish and a waste of everyone’s time. Feel free to disagree with me if it is what you believe, but don’t just be argumentative for the sake of it.

[5] Unrelenting happiness — if you never express frustration, sadness, or envy, then I kind of want to punch you in the throat. Not because I’m prone to violence — I just want to see you stop smiling.

That’s some of my list. Not very uplifting or inspiring I know, but I’m taking my own advice and trying not to be one of those people I want to punch in the throat.

What is the one thing that shits you the most?

  1. OMG bras, I hate them too. I’ve been wearing them less and less and hope to one day stop altogether.

  2. Loved this Katie thank you! Quite so : to all 5 points above! Especially pt #5. Thanks for noting the darkness that no-one wants to acknowledge, yet just give an anaemic smile saying everything’s perfect. Much makes me quake in my boots – but my quill would be working overtime if I expounded.

  3. This one had me laughing out loud then all of a sudden it didn’t anymore. There is a huge difference between querulous and hurting or maybe that hurting makes you querulous. Either way go ahead and punch the foodies in the throat!

  4. OMG – I could have written this post – Querulous is my new favorite word! – thanks for saying how I feel these days! I try to keep it light online, but sometimes I just want to scream! I do post a lot of food pictures, but don’t worry, they aren’t too healthy and I post a lot of drinks! – visiting from a-z challenge! -http://50andfabulousblog.blogspot.com

  5. I am right there with you on food zealots.. But photographing breakfast. Am following an Instagram account called ‘Breakfast in Melbourne’ and I’m blown away by the food and how it’s styled. And one sided happiness gurus that practice no other emotion.
What really pisses me off? When you feel like you haven’t achieved closure in an argument /debate. I hate holding a grudge

  6. Yeah, things piss me off too. (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/449163762806884132/ — had to share. Search Foamy Ill Will Press for videos that go along with that.)

I have heard that there are studies showing people who are prayed for have better odds of healing. But it could also be contributed to the positive energy increase. (Lots of New Age type stuff. Then again, there are Native American tribes that also believed in the power of positive energy.) I don’t know.

I have nothing useful to say about bras. Though I’ve heard they can reduce the odds of cancer in women who are very well endowed. I don’t know, I’m not a doctor. And I really lack experience to discuss this one.

Food – I’m only interested if there’s a recipe. My people were hunters for 10,000 some years. We grew corn (maize) and ate it. So yeah, people get eyerolls from me on that one.

    4 and 5 – I don’t see a lot of that, but I know it’s out there.

What bugs me… when people have an icon to a social site (Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, etc), and it is linked TO THE MAIN PAGE! People, seriously, I’m clicking so I can add you, not because I’m a newb that’s never heard of these sites before. Seven times in the last 24 hours I’ve encountered this. FACEPALM. Yup, that’s my rant.

  7. Yes, I have a pet peeve. Being separated and dying for sex and having no idea how to approach that one. I’m pissed that I can’t get sex when I want it after years of NOT wanting it. Can I add that as my own little/big pet peeve? And on top of that, I’m expected by the ex not to do it anyway. SHIT all over that! /rant As always, <3 you!
